For admission to the University of Orange...

you have to agree to participate in the life of your city (even it's not Orange!).  That's because community and civic involvement are more important than even. We can't take for granted that someone else will take responsibility for governing, leading and looking after our communities.  We recognize that we are the community and we pledge collectively to lead it, nurture it, and make it flourish.

1) Elections -- After becoming informed, I will vote in every election for which I am eligible.

2) Volunteer--I will volunteer for at least one civic project, like school programs, rescue squad, planning board, coaching, scouts, friends of the library, crime watch, community garden.

3) Governance --I will attend at least one meeting of the city/town council or school board each year.

4) Downtown -- I will support local merchants.

5) Dialogue -- When I have a criticism of the way things are run or hear a rumor I will take my concerns to the source.

6) Differences -- I recognize that people of different backgrounds are not exactly like me.  That makes our community more interesting.  I pledge to recognize our commonality and appreciate our differences, especially in times of stress and discord.  I won't use my ethnicity or theirs as a dividing line.

7) Responsibility -- I will look after my neighborhood and my neighbors.  I will become involved if I see a problem, from a pothole to a crime.

8) Neighbors -- I will get to know my neighbors and introduce myself to others.

9) Promotion -- I will talk up the good things about my community.

10) University of Orange -- I understand that as a student in the University of Orange, the future is in my hands.
